Uganda
The Kibale Rainforest in southwestern Uganda sustains the last significant expanse of pre-montane forest in Africa. It is also home to the largest groups of chimpanzees in the country, which can be tracked alongside park rangers.
Traditionally, the population around the forest was small, with a couple of tribes using the area to hunt and farm. However, in recent years, the population has multiplied sevenfold. However, nearly all inhabitants have been removed from the inside of the rainforest itself, and instead, live in villages along the periphery.
Tea plantations, along with fruit and vegetable farms surround the forest, occasionally resulting in conflict between humans and hungry wildlife. Tourism provides a significant income earner for the local population.
